The "sorry etching" has disappered from my 629 mtn gun and my 686 mtn gun. All from natural use and wear.
Can you imagine how ugly one those lazer engraved guns would be after using it for awhile.
As to lazer etching .......S&W could have just as well wrote the info on the gun with a SHARPIE.
