I like Spegels, and have three sets of them. They fit my hand nicely and in a hard kicking gun they seem to be more comfortable. I have a set of smooth grips on a 638 in 38Spl, and even with +P loads they're comfortable. I have a set of checkered Spegels on a 317; recoil's not a factor in a 22, and I can really hang onto that checkered wood. I have set of smooth on a 625 mountain gun in 45 Colt: smooth so the recoil won't chew up my hand.
