Well I initially was exactly where you are, but the one of the Mauser Central gurus informed me that I was incorrect, after pulling the receiver from the stock, I am rather certain it was indeed a casting as are most of the post 64 model 70s.... the North Carolina guns are indeed forged, so if I am misinformed I apologize.
