Wow, this thread's been around a while! The professional way to determine the appropriate handgun for general purpose police issue is to first carefully evaluate and document the officers needs. What kinds of contacts are the norm? What type of weapons are taken from people arrested by officers?

Once an evaluation of the data is made then an administrator can determine which weapon type should those under them be equipped with.

Or, he could have some cop tell him what's popular these days in the gun mags and get some of them.....
