The last of the Endurance package engineering changes were incorporated in the Models 29-5 and 629-3, so your father's 29-10 should be fine with heavy loads. Some of the big bullet loads I've seen are longer than the Smith's cylinder and are meant for Rugers or T/C Contenders only. Keep your COAL within spec and you'll be fine.
