I like the S&W 43C. It's a snubby that serves as a practice gun helping me to become ever more skillful at point shooting with my 442––my carry gun. Depends on what your kid intends to do. A Ruger Single Six is a lot of fun, but worthless for concealed carry. I suggest you decide on what you want to do with a gun, and then go for something that is the very best quality you can afford.
