Sounds like all you need is a recording of a shell being racked home in a pump shotgun and the barks of a couple of big dogs. No need to actually buy a gun or keep a dog to feed and care for.

I on the other hand keep a round in the chamber so I don't get to rack one home. I just have slide the safety off and pull the trigger. I will probably get sued for not providing an adequate warning should I ever have to use it.

At least it is not yet a law that you have to keep the chamber empty so the racking a shell home will provide fair warning to burglars that you are armed. No doubt some attorney somewhere is trying to write such a law.
