The Oregon coast is beautiful in the summer, cold and wet in the winter. I've lived east of Vancouver WA, its a nice area and its about a 90 minute drive to the ocean. Sequim is real nice, kind of economically depressed, and it is a LONG drive to the city if you want to do city stuff. You might consider Whidbey Island, though the property values are kinda high. It is a bit of a banana belt there, nothing to stop the clouds going overhead so it is dryer than Seattle or the Cascade foothills.
