I've had Anschutz, Kimber, Ruger, Winchester .22 LR rifles. The 77-22 is an excellent rifle. I've had one since 1985. On a good day it will shoot into one inch at 100 yds. For the money a new 77-22 cost, the CZ line is a better choice. The quality is exceptional and the accuracy is outstanding. I've always liked a Mannlicher stock. On a .22 rifle, it needs to be well done to avoid looking overweight and clubby. Anschutz makes a nice one. Haven't checked lately but CS likely also offers that option. If your interest leans mainly toward field use, any of the above manufacturers produce rifles that will easily meet your needs. If you are more interested in informal target shooting, club matches, etc., CZ has a number of excellent options that will easily do double-duty in the woods and fields. If you are looking more at serious serious competitive shooting, start with Anchutz. It will cost more, but good equipment will take you farther. HTH. Sincerely. brucev.
