This topic reminded me of something.. When I transferred to PA in 1995 (Federal LEO), I decided to get a PA Pistol Permit, even though I didn't really need one.

Went to the local sheriffs office, and filled out a simple form. Sheriff asked to see my LEO ID, called the agency to confirm who I was, and issued on the spot.

Funny thing was, I told my girl friend, who was with me, and had moved out to PA with me, she should get one to. She filled out the paperwork. The Sheriff read it, turned to me, and asked if I she "was ok?". I said yea, and he issued her hers while we sat there. I don't expect it is so easy now...
