For serious home defense anything you are proficient with, can handle with either hand know what to do with it if it malfunctions, and what you can get to when you need it. Size and caliber doesn't help you if you cant control it. Don't count on one shot to stop someone, it could take more then that or maybe more then one BG. Me I'm lucky no little ones around here so I have a large variety all around loaded, chambered and safeties off from .22 to .45acp not including the long guns that would be my first choice if I can get to them first, but only if I'm in a static position. Remember if you go looking, and you have some of the advantage as you know your house, the first thing through any door will be the barrel. And yes I've told everyone that come here that any firearm they see around here is loaded, whether it is or not.
