Most of us are probably aware that S&W doesn't recommend use of ammoniated solvents for any of their firearms regardless of the finish. Most of us are also probably aware that Hoppes #9 does have ammonia as part of it's ingredients. This is confirmable by checking the msds sheet for Hoppes #9 on the Hoppes web site. It's also a safe bet that Hoppes Elite does not have ammonia because ammonia is not listed on the Elite msds sheet and S&W does recommend Hoppes Elite for their modern hand guns. I have e mails from them stating this. However, I still have 1 question. There is another Hoppes bore cleaner called "#9 Synthetic Blend Bore Cleaner" that doesn't seem to get mentioned very much. My question is does Synthetic Blend Bore Cleaner have ammonia? There is no msds sheet for it on their web site but it states in it's description on their web site Hoppe's 9 - The Gun Care People that it's safe for nickel as well as most other materials. Could this mean that that there is no ammonia present in this product?
