Has anyone heard of this mod? It was mentioned on another forum. I just bought a 92f mag for $17.99. It fits the gun although it doesn't sit flush on the base. I'll need to "adjust" it slightly, but I'm thinking it may work as as a range mag, since M&P mags are difficult to find. Externally they look pretty similar.

I've heard of it. It involves cutting an additional notch and you won't have the slide locking back on the last round. I have tons of Beretta mags and might give it a try just because. Since it's one of every other brand of mag that MecGar produces that can easily be found now a days other than the S&W variety, it's worth a shot.

I suspect that S&W built their Mod 59 around a Browning HP magazine because I've converted S&W mags to function in the Browning. It just needed a new magazine catch and a shim to engage the slide stop. I mention this because there's precedent for what you want to do.
One test you may try is to insert the magazine, then hold it in place while function firing to see how it works.
If the overall dimensions and feed angle are the same, it should work.

This thread is from when the FS mags were almost impossible to find, the situation is different now (for how long, who knows). When you answer a post, take a look at the date first as things change over time.
Im in Massachusetts. The normal capacity magazine ban is still going here so I am ressurecting threads rather than starting new ones. If I want a full cap magazine for my m&p I need to use pre ban beretta sig or sigma mags. Sorry if I offended

Just get real mags, which are available at a great price. The 3-pack is the best deal.

Let me make sure I understand your situation...
Massachusetts limits magazine capacity to 10 rounds unless the magazine was manufactured before 9/13/1994. M&Ps were not made until a decade later, so you can never have an M&P magazine with a capacity over 10 rounds.
Several other types of standard-capacity magazines (i.e. Beretta 92 or Sig P226) were made before the state law's cutoff date and you can legally own those magazines. If any of those magazines worked in an M&P, your M&P would not be limited to 10-round magazines.
Are you sure that modifying other pre-ban magazines to fit the M&P would not be viewed as "manufacturing" a magazine with respect to the state law?

Thanks for understanding my issue! As long as the magazine is not modified to the extent that it no longer works in the originally intended pistol, I'm totally legal (it is the same standard as the Federal AWB). So, if I need to cut a new mag release slot, but the old mag release slot still works in the original gun, I haven't manufactured anything, because it is still a 92fs magazine.
If I could, I would, and when I move I'll definitely get some modern magazines. I just want to have some high capacity magazines for taking to the range now.

I just checked M&P, M9 and P226 mags in all three guns. All of the mags do fit in the magwells of all of the guns.
The mag catch slot is located just a tiny bit higher on a P226 mag than on an M&P mag. The P226 mag will lock into the M&P with a small amount of the mag extending beyond the grip. Surprisingly, I could manually cycle snapcaps through the M&P using the P226 mag.
The mag catch slot is located substantially lower on a 92/M9 mag than on an M&P mag. It should be relatively easy to cut a second slot in a Beretta mag that would allow the mag to work in both guns.

I haven't had a chance to live fire with the M&P and any of my Mec-gar Sig 226 mags. They do cycle and lock into place. Guess ya have to see if feed angle, lip height and lock set would be adequate for inter-compatibility.

Not intending to take this thread off track, however it would seem it is time to fire your law makers and elect new ones who fully honor the intent of the Second Amendment.
Short of that, I hope the modified magazines work!

I would think XD9 mags would also be possible candidates for modifying, as I've seen threads elsewhere where folks modified M9 mags to work in their XD.
