I've got the SD40VE and an SR9. They're both good guns.

I like the lack of manual safety and LCI, mag disconnect, and LCI on the SD.

The sights on the SR9 are adjustable though. The mag disconnect can be removed if desired. It has better ergonomics and as long as you get a newer one (look for the "D" shaped mag release instead of the circle) the trigger on the SR9 is PHENOMENALLY better than the SD series.

In the end I don't think you can go wrong with either, but just personally if I had to pick one I'd err towards the SR9.
