My wife got t-boned and totalled our beloved Chevy Uplander mini-van five years ago. She insisted on a larger vehicle and we wound up with a Hummer H3. The transfer case melted down thanks to a plastic part replaced in the next model year. It was out of warranty, but I foolishly thought my well documented history with GM would count for something. Silly me!

$1500 bucks later I was back on the road. My next stop was my friendly Toyota dealer. My bride was over her need for a larger ride. Two of our kids were in college in different directions. We got a used Prius with 24K miles on the odometer. It now has 126K on it and it has only needed oil every 10K miles, one set of tires, and precious little gas. It averages an honest 48 mpg, the battery pack is still going strong, and if I ever wear this one out (doubtful) I'll buy another. No more GM for me.
