Default Learning patience

My wife's been wanting to learn a bit about leatherworking so I put her to work on a pocket holster while I supervised.
I did tell her that it'll take patience and that the stuff she'll be using is designed to cut flesh, so be careful and take your time.
She did a good job of cutting the leather, laying out the stitch line with the dividers, marking the stitch holes with a pricking iron and glueing it up.
However, when she pushed the stitching awl through to make the first stitch hole, she stuck it right into her finger. I told her, "keep your blood off the leather," and got her a bandaid.
Give her credit, she was determined to finish the job and left me with a pretty nice stitch line.
I just need to smooth the edges a bit, stitch it up and it's done.
