I don't know about the fried thing but I have probably eaten about half-million of the little baked ones. "At one time" they weren't too bad. These days if you buy one you have to look carefully to find more than one or two cherries inside.
They don't bear much resemblance to a cherry pie.
I am not a pie baker myself. Someday I may have to learn. If time permits, at lunchtime today I believe I will stop by the local pie shop and see what they have. As long as it doesn't have sugar sprinkled over the top of the crust, they will make a sale. (Covering the crust with sugar is just barbaric.) After a long Indiana winter a good cherry pie is just what is NEEDED!
