I'm going to guess your "J" Frame is a light weight. Standard or +P rounds in a alloy frame will turn off most new shooters. I would have her try a K Frame size handgun, or have her use reduced loads. 38 wadcutter loads are usually available if you don't reload. This is a perfect example for a 32 Long/32 H&R Magnum in a steel J frame. Minimal recoil. I would however make sure it has a Tyler/BK grip adapter.
