I started as a machinist in 1963 for $1.81 an hour and retired in 2010 making $21.50 an hour. All the revisions these models went through were done in order to keep these revolvers affordable. Steps like counter bored chambers, pinned barrels and bluing were precise and time consuming operations so if you do the math you can see why they're expensive today.
