Why not go to the source and ask them? Call, don't E-mail, S&W at 800-331-0852. If they can't explain to your satisfaction ask to be transferred to the "Automatic Foreman". But, since the manual says don't do it, why are you questioning this information? I have to believe there is good reason for it!
