In your "it was better back when" days: The former narcotics detective would have never admitted anything, he would have stayed on the job long enough to finance his retirement with stolen drug sales and stolen cash.
The Ex-deputies never would have been charged and the other cops would have lied for them. Plus you never would have heard about it. Same for the "sexually harassed by judge" one.
You can post all of the anecdotal "evidence" you want, but the things I mention in my post are facts. Yep, malfeasance still goes on and on, but in DRASTICALLY reduced numbers since the "good old days" you reference when Officer Friendly was recruited from a Norman Rockwell painting and straightened the juvenile delinquents out with an ice cream cone. Back then reality was more like: you mouth off to the cop and you get a blackjack upside your head because the flashlights of the day couldn't stand up to use as an impact weapon.
