I had posted a photo of my 300H&H stockmaking venture previously. There is a bit of a story with it. I was making the stock from a block, not semi-inletted, and our RIT instructor was Joe Balickie, a famous north Carolina stockmaker--he was a stickler for perfection.

I sweated out that inletting process and I was damned if I was going to let him see any "gaposis"!

Anyway, when I inletted the front floorplate hinge, I overdid it and made a gap about 1/64" in front of the hinge.

Unacceptable (even though I had never made a stock before!)

I went home and found a piece of steel and spent the weekend making a slightly oversize front hinge with my drill press and files.

I don't think even a Model 70 expert could tell...!!!
