Looks like we can narrow down when the change was made if
Combat was willing to give up his serial number.
As for the chip, there are plastic repair options out there, don't know if you want to spring for a kit and the time and trials to get a decent color match. I've blown up & edited your pics, and I can't see any differences between the 303s and the 404s, except for the color of course.
