I was a little surprised, too, that nobody had mentioned that front sight as not being original to the 1954 Combat Masterpiece; nor was the white outline rear sight. So, OP, just be aware that at some point, the original sights were changed out. It's still a wonderful gun, well set up for whatever you want to do with it. Your dad is a generous guy!
