Stores do not throw out unsold ammo at the end of a season. They may or may not rotate old to the front, but the manufacturers have warehouses filled with ammo.
I found a box of .22lr in a dresser that hasn't been used for twenty years. Stuff was hot and accurate in my 22A. Wished I had a couple of bricks of it.
