I would agree with the others. Give it a good, thorough cleaning with a proper solvent (I do this will all my new handguns), then a proper lubing with a good gun oil/grease. I also disassemble and clean all my magazines.

I am a bit confused by your comment "it would lock back further than the slide lock catches even". You mean it locks back all the way to the rear?

Was UMC the only ammo brand you shot? I'll assume it was 115gr. I've haven't shot any UMC in my Shield. I haven't had issues with UMC in my other handguns but have had intermittent problems with Winchester White Box (as an example). Point being that sometimes these things can be ammo related.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on acquiring an outstanding firearm despite the issues you've encountered.
Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, I meant it locks all the way back when the slide does get stuck. So far back, it's back slightly beyond the point the slide catch even holds it. So basically as far back as possible.

Maybe it needs a little more lubrication then I suppose, although I tried to give it a good coating before I went out to the range. Probably too much, to be honest.

My general process is:

Slip 2000 on the outside of the barrel, and a very light coating after cleaning on the inside.
Slip 2000 EWL on the rails (more like a motor oil consistency), to keep it smooth.
Some cheaper Mpro 7 to just wipe down the outside and prevent external rust.

UMC was the only ammo I fired, 115 grain. I fired some of both FMJ and JHP, since I carry JHP. Most of the rounds fired, over 50 of them, were FMJ.

However, most of the rounds fired towards the end were JHP rounds. That being said, when I started firing rounds, at the beginning of the 60-75 rounds, I did start with some JHP without problems -- so, unsure if that's in any way related.

I'll see about taking it to the range again, Tuesday night when I have some more time. I definitely want to put more rounds through it before I feel comfortable carrying it. If it reproduces, perhaps I'll need to give smith and wesson a call.
