BlueDot37...yes, this is the exact problem as you described. With the new spring, which happens to be green and the same amount of coils as the old spring. The slide does not go as far back as with the old spring, and with no spring.

Did I get a spring with thicker coils? It was supposed to be a bone stock original spring rate.
I'm not sure what you have. That number is not for a recoil spring from Midway. That spring is the one in the picture above? A green flat wire spring? What brand?

I recently ordered a S&W 3913/3914 recoil spring from Midway. It's a green round wire spring marked 349212 which equates to S&W# 100950000.

The "new" pictured spring does not look green. You could use a caliper/mic to compare the wire thicknesses but if you think it's the right spring, & want to use it, you could remove 1/2 turn with a cut-off wheel & see if it helps. Or just order the number Bill & I gave you. Dunno beyond that.
