A recent thread on birth year guns got me to thinkin'. (Hey, it happens ...rarely, but it happens! ) ...

I am not one of the fortunate few who owns a gun shipped the very day I was born , but I have lettered several S&W's (okay, more than several) and, being a history buff, the thought crossed my mind ... what else happened the day my S&W left the factory? For most of them, the answer is "not much" ... but a few stand out ...

1) My .38 Safety Hammerless/New Departure, shipped August 6, 1890 ... the very same day that Cy Young pitched (and won) his first major league game. It was also the very same day that the first execution by electric chair was carried out. William Kemmler (AKA Crispy Critter) didn't come down for breakfast the next morning.

2) My pre-model 10, shipped July 7, 1947 ... the exact same day that the "crashed UFO" was discovered in Roswell, New Mexico.

3) A humble Model 36, shipped April 10, 1970 ... the same day that Paul McCartney announced that the Beatles were breaking up. (**insert Yoko Ono joke here**)

4) Last, but certainly not least (especially for the Starsky & Hutch fans out there), my Victory shipped to the US Navy on August 28, 1943 ... the same day that David Soul was born.

Anyone out there have a S&W that shipped on a historically significant/interesting date? (I know ... I know ... it's going to be tough to beat David Soul's birthday ... )
