How is a metal part going to make a difference? Then you'll be smacking a metal magazine into a metal mag catch. One of those is gonna wear out the other and you'll have the same result. Is the new part going to stick out slightly less so it doesn't hit the mag lips? How is anyone surprised that whacking a mag past the mag release resulted in a broken part?
I'm just used to pressing the magazine release as I insert the mag. Don't even think about it. Not like I ever envision doing a reload in the highly unlikely event I use the gun is a real self defense situation. And if I do, that one whack isn't gonna break the part.
