I asked because doing type III clearances is hard on the extractor. It could cause excessive wear on the claw.

Interesting comment. I'm going to assume you don't own a 1911? I'd put my 1911 up against any pistol for reliability. But that's a different discussion.
1911 comment was tongue and cheek but to me an M&P should be able to go a few thousand rounds w/o cleaning and not malfunction. I don't own an 1911/2011 but shoot my friends' and like them, they admit that sometime around 500 rounds w/o cleaning the slides start to slow down and they'll be getting malfucntions at 1k w/o cleaning/lubing though. That's probably because most 1911's made today have tighter tolerances than the original design to facilitate accuracy, but I'm just speculating.
