Too late for the OP now, but I have found that both my shield and FS M&P tend to get stuck on the takedown lever. I make sure to hold it forward with my thumb while releasing the slide lock to move the slide forward. If the lever is vertical, it still needs to go a few more degrees before letting the slide go forward. My situation, with my guns, not all may be the same.
