When I lived in Texas it seemed like the State gun was a Browning BLR .243 Lever Action, saw lots of 'em during deer season. The deer are not large and a .243 is all you need, and most of the guys using them were pretty good shots too. I remember standing next to a friend who blasted a Turkey that was running at full speed over 170 yards away.
