Default New 629

I purchased a new 629 44 mag recently. Fired less than thirty rounds and the cylinder locked up.
I always purchase new firearms to prevent issues like this. I have a Winchester 30-30, Colt AR and 1911.45, Henry 17 HMR, Springfield 45 cal tactical, Ruger .357 revolver and a Remington 12 gauge police model. All purchased new and never a problem. I buy one S&W and I have to send to back for warranty repair.
I am no stranger to firearms. I spent 30 years in the Army as an infantry officer. I probably could have fixed the issue
( maybe) myself but I got so pissed off after spending all that money and the revolver goes down on less than 30 rounds.
I have no experience with S&W so would like to know if this is pretty standard SOP for their quality control? I was under the assumption they were an icon in the firearms industry and had stellar firearms. Now I have doubts. Anyone else have problems with new S&W firearms?
