Interesting question. S&W 1911 threads seem to come in waves then subside for a while. I have " a few" including PD, Pro , E and original "billboard" series. I have no complaints (and much admiration) with all of them.

You are right in your observation with replacing the front sight. S&W used several different cuts across their product line. Finding the right one can be a bit of an Easter egg hunt. Best option I have found is to give the folks at Dawson Precision a call. They will hook you up with the properly fit sight for your particular gun. Cost is decent and quality VG too. As I recall, they will even install for a small fee.
