You are correct.
Mine (a Model 36 snubby) hangs on a bungee cord around my neck, like that soap-on-a-rope thing.
I don't worry about rust, either. It gets wiped down, then baked dry in the oven after each shower, then sprayed down with WD40. Then it's ready for the next time.
