I'm using a Galco "Speed Paddle" for my 3" L-frame.
If you go to Galco's website, it has others which will work with your anticipated 3" 686+.
As shown, I usually have a Pachmayr brand grip on my revolvers, but do have other brands, like Hogue or the supplied ones from S&W, which I'll put on for some variety.
