Default slide cocking devices

Difficulties have been noted with various brands of .22lr semiauto pistols, notably the older Browning Buckmarks with the reduced slide serrations that are hard to grasp in dry, cool weather, much-less when it's hot and humid.
I've now found the same issue, although not as serious, with my new Victory pistol when the hammer is forward.
Trying to cock the pistol can be annoying, at the least.
Tandemkross.com offers a "Halo charging ring" for the Victory pistol but they have not clarified the issue of "does the Halo ring require removal from the slide when field-stripping the pistol".
Anyone have any other suggestions?
