If you will simply refer to SCSW4 the Model 28 was discontinued in 1986, and the MIM thumbpiece appeared on other S&W models in 1997, so, NO, no Model 28 of any dash would have ever been produced with the late style thumbpiece. This isn't to say one could not have been fit to the gun post 1997, but it wasn't original.
