I've personally fitted lot of barrels........

I've never crush fitted one..... I torque the barrel to the frame.

Over torqueing leads to thread damage and cracked frames.

As others have said, the cross pin is fitted after the barrel is installed.
Use the correct size drill & reamer.

Getting satisfying results comes from setting the job up correctly.
