If the comparison is between the DS and M36 or 60, the Colt wins hands down. The Colt is much easier to shoot well than the Smith.

Neither is any good as a pocket pistol because of the exposed hammers.

The Smiths with concealed or shrouded hammers (M38, 49, 40, 42) are the guns to carry in a pocket. I do not include the contemporary 357 Smith j frames here because they are larger than the older guns I listed as a result of the larger frames.
