Maybe because the SCSW (4th Ed) agrees with Bushytale. The frame width of the 12 through 12-3 is .080" thinner. They go on to state that if regular K-frame grips are used on these early model 12's it will result in a .040" gap on each side.

It was for this reason I made the OP. Still somewhat in the dark. If the clip on the T-grip is made to fit around a standard K-frame how does one make it fit the narrower frame of the model 12 by trimming the clips?

Thanks for the input thus far, but I'm still not clear on how this works.
