I wish I still had the picture I took of one of our dogs (that we found under a car covered with grease). Even when cleaned up, she looked like the south end of a milkweed headed north. At any rate, the newspaper in El Paso, where we lived at the time, had an ugly dog contest, and solicited pictures. Of course I sent them one of our dog. This picture is not the original, but closely approximates our canine "beauty."
Much to my surprise, she won a prize and for a long time I said of her that she was the third-ugliest dog in El Paso, by actual vote! I told her this, and she seemed very proud of her achievement...
