Does the USMC still issue Ka-Bars? Or, any knives?
I was in the USAF, but not on a flight crew. No issued knives, so I bought a couple, expecting Vietnam duty. My career field would put me right in the main line of defense, had a base been attacked, as Ton Son Nhut was, in the 1968 Tet offensive.
Then, they sent me to Newfoundland...
When my son (Army) went to Iraq, I gave him a Fallkniven S-1. But he thought it was too nice to use, so actually carried a Ka-Bar!
Now a civilian, he does carry and use Fallkniven A-1 and S-1 knives. But I respect the Ka-Bar as a basic combat-utility knife. Most aren't too well fitted in the guard area. You can hold the knife to a light and see gaps. The old WW II ones I've handled were better fitted and the handles seemed a bit thinner, which I prefer.
