Man I hate to be that guy but I thought I'd chime in..
I chose to send my 10 month old 642-2 back to S&W 2 weeks ago because when I was cleaning it after a day at the range I saw this....
And this..
I only shot around 400-600 rounds or so since owning it...The aluminum alloy frame is taking a beating from opening/closing the cylinder and I have no idea what Smith is going to do about that pitting or crack by the firing pin bushing... If they offer me a replacement gun I would choose something else. The 642 is a great carry gun but not built to last at the shootin' range IMO.
