But the very early ones used stainless everything (none of this total titanium BS). But stainless steel didn't turn out to be a very good material for some parts. I believe the hammer and trigger were the main problems. The recall covered those parts and the factory just replaced them with flash chromed standard parts. No change in the corrosion resistance, no change in the function. Maybe someone else here can comment on the failures that prompted the change/recall.

My older one with a 410,000 serial has the newer parts. I'd prefer the original ones.

Oh wait. For the posters who always say S&W never plated the hammers (usually said in reference to determining refinished guns). This is a glaring exception to that rule.

IIRC the stainless parts didn't "rub" against each other well
