Magna-porting is trapezoidal slots cut in the muzzle end of your barrel , on either side of the front sight. This exhausts gas straight up, and reduces muzzle flip, and recoil. Many do not feel the benefits are worth the price and the reduced value of your revolver after having it done. If you are a top level competitive shooter, the time savings of the muzzle rise to the next shot can make a few thousandths of a second difference and that can amount to dollars in some competitions.
If you are a hunter and need a follow up shot, the shot recovery time may result in your getting your game.
It would probably be of no advantage on anything less powerful than a 357 magnum.
