If you use one of these, it won't matter what powder you use. I mounted the Smith "muzzle brake" on my LR308 when it had a 16" barrel and the effect was miraculous.
I don't know if the SOCOM 16 has the standard M14 front sight mount. If it does, you will have to spring for the adapter.
