Are you serious that the gun needs to be lettered again Lee? I thought all N frames from the pre-war period were numbered in the same series?

Really?
Three series come to mind instantly.
In order of appearance:
1- The 44 HE series, which covers most commercial N frames in cals 44, 38 Spec, 357 Mag, a few 45 Colt, and a few 455s thrown in......1 to about 62,500

2- The 455 series, almost totally 455s, but a few 45 Colt thrown in........1 to about 75,000
3- The 1917 series, almost totally 45 ACP, but a handful of 45 Colt thrown in......1 to about 210,000

Clear as mud, ain't it?
