Short version: USRA was founded in 1900, held national as well as state & local handgun matches in different categories for revolvers & pistols. The ran everything for the U. S. Olympic pistol & revolver teams thru 1936; they had merged with the NRA several yrs. earlier, but were a separate branch as the Olympic Committee were much happier with the USRA than the NRA. Most years the handguns used by the USRA were supplied by S&W as well as Colt. I own R H Sayres S&W single shot 1st model with a Pope barrel, he was Captain of the first 4 teams.
