Hey prochi, the extra slide is a great idea! Exactly what I would do... and I sorta have by swapping slides between my 3d Gen 9mms.
The only blued slide I have is on a two-tone 908, and it looks great on my 5906. That slide you have in your photos looks even better! I think your polishing ideas are pretty good, too. Now, did I read you right, that you want to polish the sides of the slide? You probably already know this but that will remove the finish, right? Then you're back to needing to refinish....
